LOUIS CUSIMANO



Lou Cusimano has served aviation safety for over 31 years, with 24 of those years working for the Federal Aviation Administration, prior to retiring in May, 2003. Lou was a senior executive for the last five years of his service, being appointed by Administrator Garvey in 1998. After being appointed to the position of Deputy Director, Flight Standards Service in January, 2002, he served as Acting Director for several months. He has also held a variety of other key management posts. Lou's most recent position prior to being selected as Deputy Director, was Manager, Air Transportation Division, AFS-200. He has also managed the Flight Standards Certification and Surveillance Division, AFS-900, the General Aviation Division, AFS-800, the Flight Technical Programs Division, AFS-400, as well as the safety programs division within FAA's office of systems safety. Before coming to Washington H.Q., Lou served as an operations aviation safety inspector in the field, with oversight responsibility of air carrier and general aviation operators.


EDUCATION


B.S., Experimental Psychology, Hofstra University, 1969, and has accumulated many graduate level credits at Southern Illinois University, and Central Michigan University in Business Management


Airline transport pilot certificate, flight engineer certificate, and flight instructor certificate with both fixed wing, and rotorcraft ratings
