ROMANIA OTOPENI AIRPORT
STUDY
This study was requested by the Transportation Ministry of Romania
because of the increasing air traffic at the country's principal international
airport at the capital city. The project was performed by a WMA Senior
Associate. The project was conceived as a design/build program to perform all
work needed, from preliminary engineering through design & specifications
preparation, construction supervision and operational testing.
Problems associated with construction projects at the airport that started
under the previous government were examined and analyzed, and
recommendations were made for completion or abandonment. The OTOPENI
Airport master plan was reviewed and updated to reflect international
standards for the runways, taxiways, aprons, navigation aids (both electronic
and visual), passenger and cargo terminals, maintenance hangars, aircraft tire
& rescue facilities, etc.
The end product of this effort was a recommended development plan and a
financial schedule to provide funds in a timely manner for the improvements
needed.
