DONALD SCHRAUB


Mr. Schraub retired from the FAA as a Supervisory Air Traffic Control Specialist, after more than thirty-one years of government service. Mr. Schraub was assigned to the Air Traffic Organization, En Route and Oceanic Service (ATO-E), Field Automation Support Team (formerly known as AOS). He served as an automation specialist for approximately four years and the Fort Worth ARTC Center automation manager for six years. Prior to that time he was assigned to the Air Traffic Requirements Directorate, Automation Policy Branch, in FAA Headquarters, for almost four years. After leaving Headquarters, Mr. Schraub was detailed back to Headquarters on several occasions to support various programs, including International Year 2000 (Y2K) testing and Required Navigation Performance/Advanced Area Navigation (RNP/RNAV). He was frequently assigned to represent the Field Automation Support Team on national project teams. He was tasked with identifying automation issues that might negatively impact implementation of new programs and projects, including Domestic Reduced Vertical Separation Minimums (DRVSM) and High Altitude Redesign/National Airspace Redesign (HAR/NAR). He was also tasked with developing solutions and making recommendations to mitigate risks. Prior to his transfer to FAA Headquarters, Mr. Schraub was an Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) for more than eleven years. During that time, he broadened his experience and knowledge of facility operations by serving as a Data Systems Coordinator (DSC), Military Operations Specialist (MOS), Training Specialist and as an on-the-job training instructor/evaluator.

Mr. Schraub was an air traffic controller with the U.S. Air Force for six years. He was certified as a Control Tower Operator at McClellan AFB, California. This VFR tower provided service to a wide variety of aircraft from helicopters to high-performance fighter jets. Mr. Schraub was a certified radar approach controller and instructor at three military approach control facilities, which provided air traffic control experience in a wide range of aircraft types and in diverse operational environments. Mr. Schraub was also certified as a precision approach radar (PAR) controller at each radar approach control facility.

Mr. Schraub has been a licensed pilot since 1968 and currently holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate. He remains active as a corporate and charter pilot in jet aircraft. Mr. Schraub has been a flight instructor since 1976 and currently holds ratings as a Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument Instructor and Multi-engine Instructor. As a flight instructor Mr. Schraub specialized in teaching instrument, ATP and aerobatic students. He has been a simulator instructor and a certified Training Center Examiner (TCE) at one of the largest simulator pilot training facilities in the world.
